Nowadays several companies try to optimize their communications and implement a unified messaging system. The commercially available solutions designed for various sizes of companies offer a wide range of communication functions (such as sending and receiving electronic faxes, text and e-mail messages, voice mail, etc.) and provide information exchange with colleagues and external partners via these channels. These solutions usually manage archiving and message retrieval automatically and offer several other optional services. However, these communication capabilities are only beneficial for enterprises if users can access them directly from their business processes and the applications they use every day (e.g., SAP); thus, the successful integration of e-mail and ERP systems and messaging solutions is of critical importance. Access for employees outside the SAP system is often implemented through automatically generated e-mail messages (e.g., notifying an external participant in an authorization process), but the secure e-mails can be used for exchanging critical information with business partners.
