Prior to SAP R/3 Version 4.7, the applications running in the system were exclusively written in the ABAP programming language, the proprietary programming language of SAP. After introducing the NetWeaver integration and application platform, starting from SAP ECC v5.0, the applications running on the system can also be developed in a Java environment, and program modules written in Java are also available. These ABAP and Java programs are interpreted and run by the SAP basis system. With a few exceptions, the source code of all applications can be freely displayed and edited from within the SAP system. When implementing or operating an SAP system or some of its applications, our customers have frequently had proprietary needs that can only be solved by programming. Typically, such development needs include the following:
