Page 1 of 4 SAP Enterprise Portal (EP) is the front-end component of the NetWeaver platform. It provides a unified interface for all members of the value-chain of an enterprise, allowing them to access all the information and services needed to perform their duties, to communicate with each other and to make informed decisions. The Enterprise Portal is an important component in a service-oriented architecture (SOA), however, extending the existing three-tier client-server architecture with a portal solution does not mean that an SOA has been created. SOA incorporates all the integration levels (users, information, processes, and applications) and is not limited to the user interface only. Within this central navigation platform, all necessary content (data, applications, services, and processes) are available for the users within or outside the company. Regardless whether one is an employee, customer, or supplier, they can have role-based access to the enterprise systems, information sources, and the applications that are involved in business processes. Unlike the traditional graphical user interface, the portal can integrate comprehensive, role-based content and can display it via secure web-based access. Employees and other users only need a workstation and a browser, and after logging on to the portal, they can immediately start performing their duties. The SAP Enterprise Portal package contains the following NetWeaver components:
